Living in Reidville, Nova Scotia

Evelyn McDonald recalls life in Reidville, Cape Breton, the second cooperative housing project built in Nova Scotia. It was 1943, and coal miners were looking for a way out of company housing. Evelyn moved to Reidville with her family and lived there until 2010. In February 2012, at the age of 100, she recounted those early days in an interview recorded by the StFX Extension Department and Coady International Institute. The video was made to celebrate 2012 as International Year of the Cooperative.

Evelyn passed away peacefully in June 2012, surrounded by family. We at StFX Extension Department and Coady International Institute were privileged to have met her and are very grateful for her recollection of life in Reidville.
